Summer time is usually a slow season for a weekend wildlife photographer like me. This is what we’re referring rainy days to when we were asked why we did not post all the pictures taken from an outing and we just replied we’re saving for the raining days. Time to revisit my HDD vault to see if there are any interesting enough shots that can be shared. My buddy Conrad Tan has posted an article about this trip on Fred Miranda before, but since this is one of many great trips we made over the years, it doesn’t hurt to […]

It’s that time of year again. In addition to the American Kestrel nesting at Coyote Hills Regional Park, we are very blessed to be visited by a pair of Bald Eagle that decided to build their nest in a cluster of pine trees located right in front of the Curtner Elementary School located at 275 Redwood Ave., Milpitas. This occurrence is considered extremely rare since we would not see the national bird nesting in such a noisy public place. I know many of you would roll your eyes when you see the word ‘rare’. Well, it’s definitely not something we […]

Many of us choose a genre to stick with shortly after developing photography as a hobby. A large number settle on landscape while others concentrate on macro, street photography, or portrait. Some remain on the fence. I chose wildlife, and specifically bird photography seriously, as my genre of choice about five years ago after trying out macro and landscape. I emphasize the word seriously because of the amount of investment poured into the requisite camera gear, which unlike that needed for landscape, macro, or street photography, is much steeper. I’m not going to blog about photography gear here but rather […]

Remember when we were little kids and we always got excited whenever it rained? We would sneak out running around and jumping in the puddles until our parents dragged us back in the house?  They always would say that the rain would make us sick, and until today I have had a perpetual feeling that they are not telling the truth..  Back then who cares what f/5.6 means, give me a break, I couldn’t even count past five. Oh those were the days.. But those days are gone. Most of us are very good kids now. Whenever it rains we […]

Ardenwood farm was originally owned by the George and Clara Peterson family from the 1850s. It was turned over to the City of Fremont on 1978, and the East Bay Regional Park District has operated the property as a fully functioning, turn-of-the-last-century farm since 1985. A visit here is a journey back to the time of the 1850s Patterson Ranch–a prosperous, 19th-century country estate with a beautiful Victorian mansion and elaborate Victorian Gardens. The farm still grows the same kind of produce for the last 100 years. Visitors can buy fresh produce at the small stand on the left side of the […]
